IRVINE, Calif. — The Survivors Benefit Fund hosted the event in memory of DEA Special Agent Enrique Camarena who was kidnapped, brutally tortured and murdered while working in Mexico for the DEA in 1985 and also in memory of other DEA Special Agents and employees killed in the line of duty.
“On behalf of the DEA Survivors Benefit Fund, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation for Warrior Custom Golf’s support. Thanks to Warrior Custom Golf’s generosity this year’s tournament was an immense success with all proceeds to be used to assist the families and children of DEA personnel who have given their lives in defense of our Nation. Warrior Custom Golf’s generosity is the ultimate show of respect to those DEA employees,” said Michael Nussbaum Tournament Director for the Survivors Benefit Fund.
Over 300 players attended this year’s tournament including volunteers and guests representing law enforcement agencies, public and private industries as well as international corporations from across the country.
Funds from the tournament go to support the surviving family members of the DEA’s fallen heroes with funeral costs, hardship assistance, educational expenses for dependents, and to expand psychological services to the children that they left behind.
Here’s how the DEA SBF impacted one surviving member:
“I just wanted to pour out my heart filled thankfulness to the people of the DEA Survivors benefit Fund. When my husband Terry Died on May 28, 2004, I was pregnant with our fourth baby. I was still in a state of shock and overwhelmed by the generosity and warmness of the DEA family. When I was handed a check for such a large some of money I nearly fell to my knees but instead I cried because I felt so cared for. This money really came at a great time because checks that my husband had written before he passed were bouncing because he died a couple of days too early to receive his last paycheck. I am still very humbled by the fact that all four of my children, even my son who was not born at the time of his fathers death, will be able to go to college thanks to the Survivors Benefit Fund. Right now my children are young, ages 10, 8, 6, and almost 4, so it will be a while before they start college but I will keep the DEA family updated.
Blessings and Love to everyone who was there for my family. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”- Debbie, Dornier, Banan, Mallory and Ross
